To find an open emergency shelter, use the Red Cross shelter map, dial 211, or text SHELTER and your ZIP code to 43362. Bring ID, medicines, chargers and important papers, and call ahead about pets. FEMA's hotel program is approved only for some disasters, but FEMA may reimburse hotel costs you paid.

- Pets: call ahead, since not every shelter takes them.
